Candied orange rind

orangeOne day my grandma was juicing oranges, when she told me to peel some of the oranges. I refused her immediately as I wanted to play. But, when she told me that she was juicing oranges only to make the lip-smacking candied orange rinds for me, I skipped my play-time and sat down with her to peel the oranges. Believe me, if you would have tasted those rinds, you would have done the same thing.

Ingredients:

3 large orange peels
¼ cups honey
¾ cups sugar
¼ cups of water
Salt
Superfine granulated sugar (if desired)

  • Remove the peel from the oranges carefully. Put the peel in water and bring to a boil for about 20 minutes. Boiling is beneficial in order to get rid of a bitter tang to the peel.
  • After boiling, drain the peel and cool it. Then, cut the peel into slim strips ranging from 1/8 and 1/4 thick. Blend water, sugar and honey. Drop the peel strips in the mixture of water, honey and sugar and cook for about 20 minutes. Cool the syrup, drain the peel strips and make it dry.
  • Dip the ends in granulated sugar and serve.
