| It’s Salsa, its Spaghetti. No it’s - Salsagheti |
|
Salsagheti comes in two flavors, mango and watermelon. But the name and the flavors are no bar to call it strange. The crazy part with Salsagheti is that the jelly or gummies like candy comes in long, thick spaghetti resembling worms/straws. Watch out though, these straws are dusted with chili powder and salt & sugar, giving them a spicy and sweet taste. So the real flavors that you get are, hot watermelon and hot mango. The ‘spaghetti worms’ come in a tray and there is also a sachet of tamarind sauce to spread over the straws which blends in a sour taste. The whole thing looks like some Mexican spaghetti dish. And first timers would actually prefer that it taste like one. It is not something people with non Mexican palates would approve of quickly as candy. For many, Salsagheti is one of the strangest candies (which is why it is here). But the Mexicans, who make the candy, like their chilies and they like them hot. Hence, it is no wonder that this candy is amongst the ‘normal’ candies in Mexico (where they have even more chili based candies). The candy is also available at Wal-Mart and Walgreen stores in US. |
