Cringe with Delight! Hotlix Insect Candy

When you first lay eyes on a Hotlix lollipop, you may become all flared up (especially if you are a parent) and want to snap at the shopkeeper or even snap at the candy maker. But hold on to your horses there and calm down. The bug that you see in that candy, may it be a cricket or even a scorpion, is supposed to be there. That’s why this particular candy makes it to our list of strangest candies.

The Hotlix Insect Candy is available in assorted fruit flavors with a genuine bug inside. The candies are simply named after the bug they carry. There is worm candy which also comes in additional tequila flavor. Then there is the cricket candy called Cricket Lick-Its and also the scorpion candy known as Scorpion Sucker.

There is ant candy which looks like it has a full colony of ants and there is also a butterfly candy which has an insect and an edible flower to give it an appearance of a butterfly. Health may be a big concern for some, so the insects are properly treated (cooked, fried, etc) before they are dropped in the candy. Also, the insects are supposed to be produced ‘in-house’.

Moreover, the stranger part is that the company Hotlix, has been making these candies for over 20 years and they sell a great deal of them as well. And yes, many cringe at the sight of them but some people do eat them; completely. Albeit many prefer to lick till the ‘bug-ed’ center and (mostly owing to their crumbling stomach) throw it away. They make good props for pranks and also their use as ‘stocking stuffers’ is on the rise.
