Watch LCD Soundsystem Bring New Songs to 'SNL'

LCD Soundsystem staged their first ever Saturday Night Live musical guest spot as the reunited act performed their just-released new tracks “Call the Police” and “American Dream.”

As the studio versions of both tracks hover above the six-minute mark, James Murphy and company’s SNL renditions were truncated slightly for the television audience. Even with the shorter runtime, LCD Soundsystem managed to build both tracks to their respective climaxes.

(Also, in an SNL episode that lacked an on-screen appearance by Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump, keyboardist Nancy Whang got the evening’s best Trump jab in with a “Bad Hombres” shirt featuring the president and Vladimir Putin.)

“Call the Police” and “American Dream” are two of the four new songs LCD Soundsystem debuted during their recent residency at New York’s new Brooklyn Steel venue; other new tracks include “Emotional Haircut” and “Tonight.”

This week, Murphy also updated fans on the progress of LCD Soundsystem’s new album, the band’s first since 2010’s This Is Happening. According to the singer, he still had to record vocals for one track, mix two songs and then have it mastered and shipped.

“I insist that there is vinyl on the day it’s released (because … well … because I’m an old person),” Murphy added. “It’s been one of the most enjoyable records to make in my life, if not the most fun ever (I think it is, for sure, the happiest I’ve ever been making a record). So it will be sad in some ways to see it leave the house etc.”
